Views On The News Part. 1 (7/26/2011)

Alright just a couple of quick hits on things I saw this week in the news. Will do this every Tuesday. Why Tuesday? Because Monday wouldn't get it. Lets go!:

1.) Gay marriage  began in New York this past week. The groundbreaking bill was followed by a slew of couples getting married legally in the state of New York. Last I checked the world was still spinning and people are still allowed to go planking.

2.) John Boehner and President Barack Obama took turns walking out on each other during negotiations involving the national debt limit. A lot of people liken the tension between them to the "will-they-won't-they" tension of the hit TV show "Friends." A lot of people being me of course. Only difference, as far as I can gather, is Rep. Boehner uses a better tanning product for his skin than Jennifer Aniston. I'm still team Jennifer.

3.) In sports the big news is no doubt Cadel Evans winning the Tour de France! By doing so he became the first Australian ever to win the race. In OTHER news the NFL lockout is over! After 130+ days (and literally a difference of about $40 million dollars) we have football. The end of the lockout also marks the end of the NFL's hit summer series "Locked Up: How I Spent My 2011 Lockout" starring Hines Ward, Pacman Jones, and Cedric Benson. With commentary by none other than Steelers stars James Harrison and Rashard Mendenhall. Lets just hope they can make half the plays this guy makes:
4.) Andy Rooney continued his attack on all things fun this past Sunday. In his weekly 60 minutes dialogue he took aim at GPS devices claiming we should embrace getting lost as he so often does. He also said things like the internet, TV's in the back, and cars that run on anything but gas are nonsense. He even went so far as to say he missed the good old days when cars were one color. In a later interview he said that the iPad should have been made like the old stone and chisel model he used to use and that he doesn't get women's rights or why milk doesn't get delivered to homes in a bottle anymore....one of those things are actually true. In case some of you don't catch his weekly  pick me ups here is an example!:

5.) And finally, on a more serious note, my heartfelt condolences to all those who died in the senseless acts in Norway. I also want to reiterate what I stated on Twitter about the passing of Amy Winehouse. While I am not her biggest follower or fan I don't believe mocking anyone in death is funny or appropriate.

Until next weeks views stay out of trouble, have fun, and enjoy this cool freaking song!
