Virginia

So I moved to Virginia! Next phase of "Comedic Revival" is complete and the weather is getting to the point where I feel like it is time to start performing. Yes, my performances are contingent upon the weather. No, do not call me "rain man." A few things that have gone on the last couple weeks.

1.) I'm working on a script with "Idea Men" star Baden Bagley that we hope the University of North Carolina will approve. It's for the upcoming basketball season and would star UNC point guard Kendall Marshall. We're also starting a podcast TOMORROW.

2.) In late August I moved back to Virginia and realized I wasn't in Raleigh anymore when I saw a group of girls pull a guy from a trunk. This particular action was okay because they were LDS, and I assume it was his birthday or their special way of asking homeboy out. I'm hoping it was both for his sake.

3.) I've been writing like a fool. Everything I put down on paper is cleaning up nicely. I say this because this is not the typical post everyday blog (which I will make it soon enough), but a blog chronicling my show "Comedic Revival" from brain, to paper, to you. I can't wait to share some of the new stuff!

Anyway just some of the things that are happening. Of course you will be filled in much more frequently now that I am settled in my new-old surroundings. I realized today that living in a town of a million plus people is very different from where I am now. I like it because there are a million more stories to be told in these parts. You will hear them all. Cool music!

Email Addresses

You can tell a lot about a person by their email address. My top five favorite email address handles:

1.) pimpology101
2.) applbottomNY
3.) tar_baby_lover
4.) purplepeopleeater
5.) CODmasterKillzone

Some of these folks are currently unemployed. When asked if they place these emails on their resume they state yes. That usually ends my questions.

Elephant Shortcut

I really like these guys. They're attending the University I graduated from (Southern Virginia University) and keeping alive a tradition of insanely talented people doing cool things (hint hint). At any rate they make wonderful music and both guy and girl are great people. Listen and Love it! Happy Friday!

Writing

I was listening to Seth Meyers a few weeks ago and he was talking about his writing process. He spoke of the insane amount of focus it takes to write and deliver jokes. I tend to agree with him on this. This process for "Comedic Revival" right now is a mixture of thoughts, jokes, music, and things that are happening in my life. Giving an in depth look at how things are done in my head from thought to final product. A lot of my problem used to come from focus. I used to apply it to things that didn't interest me or sounded good. Sometimes I wouldn't focus and found it easy to just tune out and let my mind wander. Then I woke up and realized that wasn't any way to live. Every one of us has an ability to do whatever it is we want to do. I truly believe that. If you want to create something that you believe in and have always loved, there's no reason not to put everything you have into it. I genuinely enjoy the process of creating something and hoping I connect with people. I hope that they connect with me in a way they never were able to. In this case, the process of writing jokes and hoping they're good for everyone else is something I've stopped trying to do. I fell into a trap of trying to please everyone else. Trying to make sure I don't offend or hurt any feelings. It is never my intention to do either of those things. At the same time, a lot of what I was thinking was lost because I was too concerned about how someone would react. Which is why for some time I didn't focus on stand-up. I turned my back on it because I found the whole process of trying not to offend too much. Now I focus on jokes like I used to, and I'm not afraid of trying new things anymore. I've also lost that fear of voicing an opinion in my jokes because why shouldn't I? Just a quick thought. More to come of course. Check the Louis C.K video. interesting stuff on his writing process.

Views On The News Part. 3 (8/26/2011)

Well it has been quite the turn of events since the last time I decided to give my take on the craziness that is the world. I would like to say some have learned to behave but I guess that's not the case. On to it:

1.)  Well Miami is back at it again. First things first: I am not a fan of paying players. 1.) because people are looking at one piece of the player paying pie. You pay one you have to pay them all. That includes those lovely ladies. So that being said the real reason why Miami players can't keep out of trouble is because they're 18-24 year old athletes IN MIAMI. Give'em a break at least they weren't...well I take that back they did everything under the sun. At least they turned out to be upstanding citizens right? Some of them? Okay bottom line for those who think they wouldn't have done some of the same  things quit fooling yourself. I know some who would have hopped a yacht, taken a few benefits, and, sadly, would have met up with Teddy Dupay and his "friends." But lets face it, they were young college guys in a town that doesn't necessarily promote going home and catching the latest episode of "Community." That being said I don't condone what was done. I just don't see the point in all the uproar. If we really want to point fingers check out the administration and coaches in pictures hamming it up with the ponzi schemer.

2.) Earthquake mania took over the East Coast this week. I for one wasn't expecting that little natural disaster but it didn't take long for the jokes about it to come pouring in. What I was waiting for were the insane accounts by individuals of the earthquake and darn it all if I didn't get my wish!
I think the best point he made was how the world definitely isn't getting any younger. You sir are correct. And let me be the first to say do not miss out on that cool Nintendo shoelace necklace trend that is sure to jump off after this video.

2.) On to politics where President Obama was recently zinged by Mitt Romney for being "out of touch" for taking a vacation to Martha's Vineyard instead of working in Washington or taking a more low key vacation. Going as far as saying "I wish he would have gone somewhere else."On the heels of these comments it was announced he would be bulldozing a significant portion of his $12 million dollar California mansion and expanding it because it is no longer adequate for his family needs. Can I just emphasize that I am a firm believer in people doing whatever it is they want with their own money (President Obama did pay for his week long jaunt in Massachusetts). But if you're gonna call a guy out of touch for dropping 50K on a week long vacation you might want to hold off on the multi-million dollar house work until a few months down the road. Let those zingers simmer a little bit.

4.) Finally Steve Jobs cried uncle and stepped down as CEO of Apple this week. While I personally have never owned a device outside of the Ipod made by Apple I can tell you that Mr. Jobs as a businessman and an innovator is a genius. Whatever health issues that are ailing him I wish him the best and count me as an admirer of the things he has done to bring Apple from the depths to one of the greatest companies on the planet. If you have the time (which I hope you do) check out the commencement address he gave at Stanford in 2005 below.

In honor of the forthcoming hurricane I decided to go with Dexy's Midnight Runners "Come On Eileen." Yes the Hurricane's name is Irene but it doesn't have to know that.

Okay cooler music!
